Effective February 1, 2017, an Ontario Works participant is no longer required to pursue child support as a condition of eligibility. Participants are required to advise their caseworker of any child support payments they may receive.
An Ontario Works participant is required to make a reasonable effort to pursue spousal support. Reasonable efforts may include attending court appointments, and providing Ontario Works staff with current information.
How can our staff help?
The Ontario Works Caseworker provides information and support but is not a lawyer and does not provide legal advice or attend court.
The Ontario Works Caseworker can:
- Review current court orders or support agreements to ensure they meet Federal Child Support guidelines
- Support you in completing court applications
- Provide information packages and list of resources
- Liaise with the Family Responsibility Office (FRO)
